Here's an article about why you should never read game forums! It's brilliant. Although written with a bit of a fantasy MMORPG bent, so much of it applies to URU. Here are some choice snippets:

Quote:
Herewith then, a guide to the deranged, degraded inhabitants of the forums. You cannot defeat them, they provide precious little experience, but if they get their claws on you, they may turn you into one of their own.

That's so us! Very Happy

Quote:
The Magical Realist

Doesn't understand what a "game" is. Constantly makes arguments based on what would be "realistic," even if the game is set in a fantasy world run by wizards and pixies.

IC/OOC anyone?

Quote:

The Eternal Quitter

Just comes on the forum to let everyone know he's quitting for good and to spend a dozen paragraphs explaining why. Then does it again three months later.

I've seen this happen so many times!

Quote:
The Emancipator

Sees the game as a titanic struggle between the evil expressive developers and the poor, downtrodden gamers. The evidence? Every rule and limitation in the game.

Just let us play Myst, Cyan! We don't want your evil story!

I'm LMAO at this article.

Hahaha oh man yeah pretty much right on.

I'm glad we don't have too many of the ones you didn't quote.

Quote:
The Lifestyler

Wants a bunch of cosmetic changes to a single type of character. Exhibits an eerie level of identification with said character.

Sample Quote: "The Pastry Elves' laugh should be less bubbly and more tinkly. Our giggle should remind you of gazing at the stars as a child, and our smile should make you think of the taste of honey on a cool spring morning.

That would just be scary. I've never been happier to see the absence of elves in a game. No offense to Wutt Evah.

By the way, Shorah from Chicago.

Think he's already been blown back home. Very comfortable Wink

Great and funny article Brian Smile

Quote:
Rants & Raves:

But what about people like you who whine about whiners? That takes whining to a whole new level.

...and how about you whining about someone who's whining about someone else? gets pretty redundant, eh?

Self-examination is not the forte of on-line columnists at Wired

He really forgot an important type of person:

The Constant Whiners
Main complaint is that everybody's complaining and whining and as nobody wants
to be a whiner, almost everybody attunes into this chorus and pretends to agree
Sample Quote:
Quote:
"If you play an online game that you enjoy, there's one surefire way to spoil the experience: read the forums on the official site. There you will find a vast underworld of lost souls keening their misery onto your screen...You cannot defeat them, they provide precious little experience, but if they get their claws on you, they may turn you into one of their own"

Punishment: No chance to escape from this doom loop

Justification: This is just mentioned as an important addition to the already
existing assembly... or am I one of them, too? Embarassed ... Laughing

These go hand-in-hand with Continuous Arguers...

The Continuous Arguer
Will never change their position on any given topic, or at least attempt to understand an opposing party's perception, even when given a sound or valid argument to the contrary. Regularly employs fallacies to oppose any thought that does not reflect their own position or beliefs.
