Okay, the first meeting has come and gone. I thought the turnout was great. It was nice to see everyone. Here is a copy of the chatlog (thank you to Marten and Cycreim for taking notes as well. As usual, I have edited for content.

(06/05 22:10:52) Professor Askew: Okay, folks, in a nutshell....The Great Tree is going to document its history by filming re-enactments of its many chatlogs on file. The purpose of this project is many-fold.
(06/05 22:13:33) Cycreim: Right here in the cavern, under the watchful eyes of everyone! (hopefully!)
(06/05 22:13:54) Professor Askew: Right. Hopefully it will gather momentum over time.
(06/05 22:14:09) Cycreim nods his head
(06/05 22:14:32) Great Tree Jon: How far back?
(06/05 22:14:52) Professor Askew: Episode One is Zardoz meeting Phil for the first time. And Dusante and others speaking with Sharper early on.
So, back to the beginning. November 2003. What we hope to achieve...
(06/05 22:16:52) Cycreim: And then, we just sort of wing it in chronological order, I'd imagine. And we don't need to re-enact all the logs.
(06/05 22:17:11) Professor Askew: 1) To bring new Explorers up to speed as to what came before. Prologue will not be swept under the carpet.
(06/05 22:17:29) Great Tree Jon: 1a) In a way that isn't boring and tedious
(06/05 22:17:41) Cycreim: There's been a few posts on various forums asking for exactly that, Prof. It'll do some good for them to have a place to look.
(06/05 22:17:46) Tweek: Most logs are time stamped so chronology shouldn't be to much of an issue.
(06/05 22:17:51) Professor Askew: lol. I certainly hope so, Jon.
(06/05 22:17:57) Professor Askew: Right, Tweek.
(06/05 22:18:22) Great Tree Jon: Do we know the proper locations for most of these conversations?
(06/05 22:18:25) Professor Askew: 2) Important. The DRC still has a lot to answer for...
(06/05 22:18:46) Professor Askew: Yes, Jon, but whenever possible we will get original participants assistance.
(06/05 22:19:11) Great Tree Jon nods his head
(06/05 22:19:14) Cycreim: We don't even know the DRC that well.
(06/05 22:19:15) Karan: Now, would these be voiced over w/ incavern stuff... or just retyping the text in the video, or what?
(06/05 22:19:27) Professor Askew: For example, Zardoz has agreed to work with us on Episode One.
(06/05 22:19:41) Professor Askew: No voice. Captions only.
(06/05 22:19:51) Brian Fioca: Nice.
(06/05 22:20:11) Karan: Like, how to make it all that different from reading the log itself..... if people are looking for a way to learn without reading pages of logs.
(06/05 22:20:14) Professor Askew: But we will frame the chat logs with some [artistic moments and story-telling.]
(06/05 22:20:17) Cycreim: Subtitles, Karan. Voices were dubbed cheezy. We can take this on the casual but the better we can make it look with our supplies down here in the Cavern, the better.
(06/05 22:20:26) Great Tree Jon: The entire conversations, or edited to make sense and get to the point faster?
(06/05 22:20:45) Professor Askew: There will be some editing for length [and clarity, yes.]
(06/05 22:20:51) Karan: Yeah, I guess voice would be cheezy.
(06/05 22:21:04) Professor Askew: Cheezy and the files would be much larger. We will have music, however. Let me get back to point 2. LOL
(06/05 22:21:37) Cycreim: We'll have the original chat logs available for anyone who is interested in the full documentation of the minutes, right.
(06/05 22:21:48 ) Great Tree Jon: Okay, I'll save quesitons for the end Smile
(06/05 22:22:00) Professor Askew: What do you mean, Cyc?
(06/05 22:22:05) Karan: Sorry to interrupt, Prof... continue Wink
(06/05 22:22:21) Professor Askew: LOL. Okay hold up a minute.
(06/05 22:22:53) Cycreim: Well, I mean, if anyone cries foul and says we're manipulating things by editing for length, we have the original logs.
(06/05 22:22:57) CuzinJohn: Hey gang... sorry i'm late
(06/05 22:23:10) Professor Askew: Gotcha. Now, I'll get these points out and we'll go from there.
(06/05 22:23:51) Great Tree Jon: So. Point 2.
(06/05 22:24:28 ) Professor Askew: 2) The DRC have made their presence in the Cavern once again and everything is hunky dory. They've taken the Journey and are working with liaisons.
(06/05 22:25:07) Cycreim: Purportedly.
(06/05 22:25:11) Professor Askew: Everything is swell..... Riiiight....
(06/05 22:25:22) Daedalus: Haha. "Nothing to see here".
(06/05 22:25:35) Cycreim: Preach it!
(06/05 22:26:02) Professor Askew: Without actually confronting the DRC...by documenting what took place in the Cavern two years ago.... We bring all of our questions into a new light.
(06/05 22:26:25) Great Tree Jon nods his head
(06/05 22:26:38 ) Cycreim: Without actually getting in the DRC's way, too.
(06/05 22:26:39) Professor Askew: Questions about Phil....and the Bahro....and Watson... Right, Cycreim.
(06/05 22:27:00) Daedalus: Their confrontation with Phil and Sharper?
(06/05 22:27:00) Cycreim: And the D'ni on Noloben!
(06/05 22:27:14) Professor Askew: By the time the Cavern is officially reopened at the end of the year....
(06/05 22:27:26) Daedalus nods his head
(06/05 22:27:26) Professor Askew: The Great Tree won't be the only ones asking these questions. We'll make the filming very public.
(06/05 22:28:08 ) Cycreim: Speaking of CCN, here's to hoping they cover our antics.
(06/05 22:28:09) Professor Askew: And of course the finished products will be available as well.
(06/05 22:28:30) Cycreim: But we'll be distributing the videos on our own, on the Great Tree site.
(06/05 22:28:45) Professor Askew: We'll come back to this....
(06/05 22:30:35) Great Tree Jon: [This project] builds us a reputation, both of seriousness and of opposition to the sorts of things that were going on.
(06/05 22:30:48 ) Professor Askew: Yes! That was it. Rebuilding Great tree presence. Thank you, Jon.
(06/05 22:31:11) Cycreim: Ah yes, the selfish point. Smile
(06/05 22:31:24) Professor Askew: Mustn't forget the selfish point.
(06/05 22:31:28 ) Great Tree Jon: Awesome, I get bonus points.
(06/05 22:31:30) Karan: hehe
(06/05 22:31:31) Professor Askew: It has personality.
(06/05 22:31:41) Cycreim: It has pizazz!
(06/05 22:31:41) Daedalus: What I like is that it is in the same vein as what we were trying to do before, make sure that the cavern doesn't forget the bad stuff as well as the good.
(06/05 22:31:55) Professor Askew: Right, Daed.
(06/05 22:32:00) Daedalus: I like it.
(06/05 22:32:01) Professor Askew: Very important.
(06/05 22:32:15) CuzinJohn: Right... there are lots of folks in the cavern now who weren't 2 years ago..
(06/05 22:32:18 ) Cycreim: Good THING, Daed.
(06/05 22:32:36) Professor Askew: Correct, Cuzin. A lot of new people.
(06/05 22:33:03) Great Tree Jon: Okay, can I field a couple questions now, or do you have more notecards? Smile
(06/05 22:33:07) Cycreim: As in singular. That thing being that we might actually start to see some changes in these familiar settings.
(06/05 22:33:21) Professor Askew: Go ahead, Jon.
(06/05 22:33:28 ) Cycreim: The new kids need to know that they can actually make a difference down here.
(06/05 22:33:35) Daedalus nods his head
(06/05 22:33:48 ) Great Tree Jon: The first is logistical- Is part of the project to categorize our logs and decide which will be made, or have you done this already?
(06/05 22:33:50) Daedalus: We witnessed first hand what was possible.
(06/05 22:34:14) Professor Askew: The job is big enough, Jon. I was basically using catlogs from GT website....
(06/05 22:34:39) Great Tree Jon nods his head
(06/05 22:34:53) Professor Askew: There's probably going to be less committee work on this than usual.
(06/05 22:35:00) Cycreim: We could probably do this on an ongoing basis, depending on how people react to things.
(06/05 22:35:14) Great Tree Jon: Alright. My second question's about point 2...
(06/05 22:35:30) Professor Askew: Right. Just meet....throw out the next script idea and go with it. Yes, Jon?
(06/05 22:36:24) Great Tree Jon: What are we expecting, exactly, from the DRC. The Great Tree's not about complaining about the cavern's leadership, it's about making the cavern better in spite of the leadership.
(06/05 22:36:44) Professor Askew: Good question.
(06/05 22:36:49) Great Tree Jon: So, rather than just yelling loudly about the Bad Things that happened two years ago, what results do we want, now? An apology? An explanation? When it comes to the DRC, what is the goal of this project?
(06/05 22:37:31) Professor Askew: Our main goal is to learn the truth. The DRC may not even know it.
(06/05 22:38:57) Cycreim: The nice thing about this plan is that it doesn't require people to go crazy. But, if they do, all the better. Smile
(06/05 22:39:50) Professor Askew: Here's the thing.... We want to document the past and let things grow out of that.
(06/05 22:40:28 ) Great Tree Jon nods his head
(06/05 22:40:37) Professor Askew: We will tell our story and see what comes of it.
(06/05 22:41:09) Great Tree Jon: I think there will be definite benefits to giving some sense of immediacy to what the DRC did before funding was cut.
(06/05 22:41:45) Professor Askew: Right, Jon.
(06/05 22:42:01) Great Tree Jon: Cool. That answers my questions.
(06/05 22:42:01) Cycreim: And give the newcomers a sense of how far they'd come, if anything.
(06/05 22:42:38 ) Professor Askew: Any other questions before I move on to the next point?
(06/05 22:42:49) Cycreim: The least we'll get out of this project is a bunch of cool videos.
(06/05 22:43:30) Daedalus: I'd like to see reactions to events like the pub break-in... it's too bad silent responses can't be "logged".
(06/05 22:44:17) Professor Askew: True, Daedalus. But, we can work with that.
(06/05 22:44:57) Professor Askew: This is a big project. There's an excellent chance it won't get completed. We CAN'T let that bother us.
(06/05 22:45:42) Cycreim: For real.
(06/05 22:45:42) Professor Askew: The work is more important than the finished product. The WORK is what's important. The intent is important.
(06/05 22:46:14) Cycreim: Some of you may seek that destination, but YOU should seek the Journey. Smile
(06/05 22:46:20) Weldergeek starts to laugh
(06/05 22:46:23) Professor Askew: There are a lot of logistics. Lots of actors. Time demands. Post productions....etc.
(06/05 22:46:55) Great Tree Jon: It might not be a good idea to think of it in terms of one big project. We have one conversation planned to work on, then another, then another. Eventually, we might run out of conversations.
(06/05 22:46:59) Professor Askew: We just do the best we can and move forward. Right, Jon.
(06/05 22:47:17) Cycreim: Sounds like a good plan.
(06/05 22:47:22) Professor Askew: Just little bits. We have all year. Gadren has already started putting together the pieces of an intro film.
(06/05 22:47:55) Cycreim Maybe even past that, if we want.
(06/05 22:48:12) Professor Askew: Right, Cyc. We have a script for Episode One.
(06/05 22:48:53) Cycreim read it, it's good.
(06/05 22:49:07) Great Tree Jon: Can we find copies of the script on the site?
(06/05 22:49:27) Professor Askew: We will start a public forum at GT for this now. I will post the script there.
(06/05 22:49:59) Great Tree Jon: Great.
(06/05 22:50:15) Professor Askew: We will start looking for volunteers. Actors especially. And we'll need a search group to help track down original participants.
(06/05 22:50:47) Cycreim: I'll help out in any way I can, Prof.
(06/05 22:51:05) CuzinJohn: Count me in, too... I've done a bit of theater in my day...
(06/05 22:51:18 ) Great Tree Jon: Another thing for the forums... a help wanted section.
(06/05 22:51:19) Professor Askew: Marten will work as Director/Photographer. So will I, probably.
(06/05 22:51:21) CuzinJohn takes a deep bow

Cycreim...Marten and I linked out at the same time so we will need your log to fill in this short blank spot. Please PM it to me. Thank you..

(06/05 22:56:18 ) Professor Askew: We'll get the new forum up and running and clarify all that's been said tonight. And we'll see what everyone wants to do, if anything.
(06/05 22:57:00) Cycreim: So, how are we going to work with publicity?
(06/05 22:57:16) Professor Askew: Clarify, Cycreim?
(06/05 22:57:16) Cycreim: Going back to the CCN thing I mentioned earlier...
(06/05 22:57:50) Professor Askew: What do you mean, Cyc? What would you like to see happen?
(06/05 22:58:19) Cycreim: To be honest, I'd like to see them reporting on in-cavern events, if you know what I mean.
(06/05 22:58:46) Professor Askew: Well, leak it to them. Or put yourself in charge of publicity. Remember, we won't be taking a Hollywood approach.
(06/05 22:59:41) Cycreim: If I could, that would be awesome. And yeah, I know what you mean. Smile
(06/05 22:59:45) Professor Askew: So, publicity with dignity. Any other questions or comments?
(06/05 23:00:26) CuzinJohn: I have a question...
(06/05 23:00:31) Cycreim: Great Tree rules!
(06/05 23:00:36) Weldergeek cheers
(06/05 23:00:45) Professor Askew: Go ahead, CJ.
(06/05 23:00:49) Tweek: Yey, DRC.
(06/05 23:00:56) Professor Askew: LOL
(06/05 23:00:59) Tweek: ...oh wrong meeting <.<
(06/05 23:01:03) Weldergeek starts to laugh
(06/05 23:01:05) Professor Askew laughs
(06/05 23:01:15) CuzinJohn: With all the infinite combination of colors and clothes in our wardrobes... what are the odds that Tweek and I would show up here in the same outfits?
(06/05 23:01:21) Cycreim: Don't let him get away!
(06/05 23:01:29) Professor Askew: I wasn't going to say anything....
(06/05 23:01:37) Professor Askew: LOL
(06/05 23:01:48 ) Weldergeek grabs a large net
(06/05 23:02:08 ) Professor Askew: I want to REALLY, REALLY thank you all for coming tonight.
(06/05 23:02:25) Professor Askew: Meetings like this remind me of the old days.
(06/05 23:02:30) Cycreim: The last word on the jackets is that Sharper has them stashed somewhere.
(06/05 23:02:45) Professor Askew: Right. Mark me...we WILL get them back.
(06/05 23:02:49) Cycreim: Dunno if it's something we can get to yet.
(06/05 23:03:00) CuzinJohn: Personally...It's good to see so many of you again... I was out of the loop for a spell.
(06/05 23:03:03) Professor Askew: Probably not, Cycreim. Yes, definitely good to see everyone.
(06/05 23:03:54) Cycreim: GREAT meeting.
(06/05 23:03:55) Professor Askew: Can't wait for November/December.
We'll be ready. Tweek, great to see you here. Thanks for coming.
(06/05 23:04:52) Tweek: Yeah, don't get to mingle much these days.
(06/05 23:05:00) Professor Askew: I bet. You guys are doing a fine job.
(06/05 23:05:17) Weldergeek: It is good to see everyone. I have not been able to get [into the Cavern] much lately.
(06/05 23:05:30) Tweek: Thanks, its appreciated.
(06/05 23:05:33) Professor Askew: Nice to see you, too, wg.
(06/05 23:05:39) Cycreim: It's been rather quiet down here. It's awesome to see so many people in one room.
(06/05 23:05:47) CuzinJohn: This is true.
(06/05 23:06:10) Professor Askew: Okay, we'll see you all on the forums as this gets organized.
(06/05 23:06:31) Professor Askew: Marten, I'll send you a PM on getting started.

Hey thanks for the log! Sorry again for not being able to make it to the actual meeting. I'm here to help in whatever way I can, preferably on the writing side as my access to the cavern is sporadic at the moment.

Thanks, Daniel, we'll certainly take you up on that offer. Take a look at the chat logs on the Great Tree website and try to see what would make a logical Episode Two based on what you've seen for Episode One. It could be two short ones or one longer one and it should take place shortly after the events of Episode One. And to add pizazz to the chatlog(s), see how you can creatively frame the whole thing. Feel free to report back here or PM me with some ideas.

Hmm the importance of this project suddenly occurs to me. I've been reading through chatlogs trying to get a footing and getting completly lost. It suddenly occured to me that I'm surrounded by people who were actually there.

Don't suppose we could get together a really brief chronology of important recorded events (or a link to one if it already exists). I know roughly the things that happened just not the order in which they happened.

Also keeping a record of which chatlogs were used in which episode would be great. So which one was used for Episode 1?

Cheers

Well, Daniel, that might be possible. Time-consuming, but possible. In the meantime, notice that most (if not all) of the GT chatlogs are dated and open with a synopsis. In fact, most often, the date is actually in the title of the chat log. Hope that helps.

Hey, I have an idea. Why don't you create a chatlog timeline? That might be fun and help you organize your thoughts. And I would bet the Explorers would love it. We could gussy it up when you're done and put it on the web.
