Due to the various complications regarding the story-telling aspect in UU I have decided to hang up my role as Professor Askew:
Quote: | Okay, I'm throwing in the towel. I'm going to post this at UO, Tapestry, DRS and the Great Tree.
Up to this point I have been as heavily involved in the Umbra storyline as anyone...maybe more so. I have spoken with Umbra twice....Albion once (which was fascinating).....and finally given an invitation to the WE Hood where I met with Tyrehl for an even more fascinating meeting. They were setting the groundwork for some interesting stuff. That along with the DRS explorations was really making a fun and fascinating Uru for me. But, then the story wars broke out and there was much OOC discussion taking place which did nothing to help the suspension of disbelief.
Ultimately it seems that the Uru community wants nothing more than what some feared might happen in the first place.....a glorified chatroom...which is fine. I don't say that's wrong.....I was just hoping for more. Apparently that's not going to work out.
The DRS is moving slowly. They have their reasons. And they're legitimate, I know. But while waiting for them to get the ball rolling this Umbra thing came along. I found it very interesting. And because the characters were so elusive, it made it that much more interesting. But, it seems that some other folks may have jumped on the "visiting stranger" act who are not associated with the Umbra storyline.....made it confusing.....And this Dr. Miho guy....I don't know what his story is but he sounds like a complete idiot. I never had to deal with him, thank goodness. It's a shame things had to turn in the direction they have. I have never come across inappropriate behavior in the Cavern at all and none in conjunction with this storyline. But, a few loose cannons (with a few loose screws) can really spoil it for everyone else.
No one should abandon the Tapestry shard. Eric has worked, and is working, too hard for everyone to abandon him now over an issue like this. Put the rude people on Ignore and just continue to have fun. Eventually the annoying ones will go away.
For me, I will be retiring Professor Askew. The up and down emotions I've experienced in Uru since last November are becoming exhausting. I love Uru too much to abandon it entirely so I will probably create a new avatar and start fresh....ignoring all story lines as they develop and simply keep in touch with my friends. My memories of Uru Live and the creation of the Great Tree will always stay with me. Brian Fioca and Douglas Sharper....Daedalus and Farlesis...Mystlander....the Journeys....Phil Henderson.......The gang at GT and our growth and development...the direction we were heading in before the Cavern closed......all the Great Hoods.....all this will be with me. I wish UU great success and hope it leads to a more formal return of Uru.....and Askew's long-awaited return! LOL I wish the DRS great success and I hope all story-telling ventures can be communicated properly and in character and fun for all. |
I will keep in touch..... _________________ Professor Daniel Askew - Securing our reality from the machinations of the Station Masters. |

I'm sorry to hear that you are retiring as Professor Askew. Although I realize that Eric has suspended the DRS storyline on his shard for now, I hope that something can be worked out in the future. Either way, I'm not giving up so easily. I think the Great Tree still has a purpose and perhaps we can be a part of a future storyline with the H'uru server project or perhaps even "Something Else". _________________ Uru Live KI #: 69208

SuperGram sent me a very nice PM over at UO asking me that I reconsider retirement. I explained to her that I have not deleted Professor Askew but simply shelved him until something comes along that warrants his attention. I hope that doesn't sound vain, it's not meant to. It's just that I've grown very fond of little Askew and his role in Uru Live and I thought everything was going great with UU what with having our Hood back and our jackets.....the DRS storyline was cool as was the Umbra storyline. And because I was involved with the Umbra storyline to such a significant degree, when things got so ugly during the story wars....I just didn't want Askew to be a part of that whole mess. He deserves better. But, I don't! LOL. Sorry if I sound like I have a split personality....I believe it's my acting background that has caused my attachment to this character. Is there a doctor in the house? Because of my crazy, ridiculous work hours, I don't get to see many of the GT gang in the Cavern. And never more than one at a time. But if this great group comes up with a new cause to stand up for.....Professor Askew will always be there.
Ashtar, as far as your H'Uru server goes.......I. Am. There.
With bells on. Anything to help out a campadre. _________________ Professor Daniel Askew - Securing our reality from the machinations of the Station Masters. |

Okay, Mystlander...breeeaaathe.
A couple of things have come up that have given the old Professor pause for thought.
1) My wife is writing an anthropological paper on Uru so she will need a guide in the Cavern.
2) Everything has cooled down at the Tapestry board (and shard) regarding storylines and there is some slow, creeping progress regarding that. Which I think is a good thing.
Bottom Line: I may have spoken to soon. _________________ Professor Daniel Askew - Securing our reality from the machinations of the Station Masters. |

Something peculiar has happened here...when I last looked the Umbra thing was being mysterious and Brena was back and things were rolling fairly smoothly. I go away for a week and when I come back everything has fallen apart, the DRS is announcing its own death and major players are deeply unhappy.
So the first thing that pops into my head (sorry--it's just the way I am) is "did I do, or in any way contribute to, this?" I hope not...gods I hope not...but if I did, could someone please tell me, and if I didn't, what on earth happened? I was checking into the DRS and GT fora every day, and there was no hint that I could see of any impending collapse.

PROFESSOR - THANK YOU! I nearly passed out five minutes into holding my breath, but you're back and I'm relieved...
ZANDER - Ever since I got Myst IV: Revelation, I've stayed away from all of the Myst/Uru forums, because the temtation to view spoilers is so great. Guess I, too, have missed out on all of the excitement involving the storylines... _________________ URU Live KI #: 50911 MOULa KI #11697212

Yeah... what Mystlander said!
I gotta give the dev team credit for Revelation... I'm loving it!
I'll get back into Uru, UU, H'Uru, et al ONE of these days... _________________ KI 182798

I tried my hardest to stay away, but some of the puzzles were just too hard, so I cheated... (On the other hand, it might have been I'm just not patient enough...) Anyways, back on topic, I'm glad that you haven't truly retired yet Profesor! _________________ Jaharen

Hi, all! Don't worry if you feel out of the loop regarding the story wars and the disappointment I expressed earlier and blah...blah....blah. You're better off not knowing. For me, it's a new starting point. Jaharen, you are certainly not to blame for all that transpired........Or are you? Nope! You're not. Things just got a little ugly over at the Tapestry Forum but all is coolest once again. _________________ Professor Daniel Askew - Securing our reality from the machinations of the Station Masters. |

Well, I'm definitely out of the loop, but I hope I'll be able to fix that soon. I'm at least glad you'll still be around, Prof! _________________ ~Moiety Jean
