I can provide details of what happened after Brian left. (and I logged for sometime afterwards too)...

Anyway, apparently whoever was playing this part managed to manipulate things so that his KI was invisible, although he certainly had one. He raised up his arms at the end of a long silence, in KI-examining fashion, and linked out.
