I'm sure many of you have heard this by now, but for those who don't frequent the DRC forums -

JD Barnes has announced that he has recently been given a collection of documents that he needs help to catalog and restore. Long story short, a Mexican prospector stumbled into the Cavern in the late 1800's (shortly after Atrus' group left for Releeshan). Thinking he had found El Dorado, he collected a bunch of documents and notes to prove his discovery. His decendant recently gave them to Barnes to study.

The initial post is here. Apparently there are commentaries of Lara's exploration in English and Spanish, as well as a variety of D'ni docs from recipes and kid's stories to Age descriptions and scientific texts. As people submit restored texts, Barnes is working with D'net to get them posted online.

Personally, I'm totally stoked about this project, both personally and with the DZS in mind! I just thought I'd mention it in case the rest of you GTers hadn't heard... Wink

Thanks Rils, that was a good idea and the subject is absolutely
worth being mentioned and honored here...

I'm glad, that I finally found a "cleaned up" version of the Townhall
meeting's chat log on the GoMa forums (second post)... Very Happy

Please have a look here ...

For the sake of completeness I'd also like to mention J.D. Barnes'
original thread (The Lara documents) on the DRC forums, now
with a newly added "Frequently Asked Questions" section on the
"The Lara documents", "Domasio Lara" himself and "The restoration process"

Find all those treasures over here ...

I had always intended to try and work with this project at some point and after stumbling across some already translated documents at the DRC forum the other day I finally got around to picking out a piece to work on.

I've just about completed a draft of the translation and I'm currently talking to Mr. Barnes about getting him to give it a once over. It really is rather fun!

Anyone else particpating in the project just now?

Yes, I am. Wink

I wanted to have it finished two weeks ago, but I was delayed. I hope to work on it some more during the weekend.

I look forward to seeing your stuff, dcos! Wink

I've got something I'm working on too, but I've been out of town for 3 of the last 5 weeks and haven't really had a chance to make much progress. One of these days though...

Check out the latest Lara translation. The song is really quite beautiful and sad at the same time.[/url]

This is so beautiful, Dan... thank you... Very Happy

What a wonderful voice... that music sung like this is
even more amazing and mystical... and the lyrics are
wonderful and deep, yes... Hard to stop listening... Razz

The restored score is also beautiful

That was a great restoration document. I like the ones which are more visual and audible. Still thinking about how to do the one I'd like to with my rusty set of 'skillz'.

It just so happens... that I've been thumbing through a few of the documents in Mr. Barnes' possession and have found a set that intrigue me. But unfortunately, I am insufficiently skilled to restore one of the pieces, a set of sketches that display an intricate piece of machinery or a device. The drawings are reminiscent in detail of the sketches of Leonardo Da Vinci. If there is anyone who might be interested to collaborate upon this project, please let me know, otherwise I will return the set to Mr. Barnes in hope that someone else will be able to complete a proper restoration.
