Over at the Myst Online forums, djlumberjack noticed that his game had gotten slower, and laggier, and harder to play ever since Scars.

He did a reinstall and it helped a little, but not much.

He cleaned up his User Data folder, and it helped a lot.

The discussion is here: http://www.mystonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=13133&start=15

What does it mean to 'clean up the User Data folder' ?

On Windows, your User Data folder is the "Uru Live" folder in "My Documents". I'm not sure where these things reside on the Mac.

I, like others, have made subfolders within the "Logs" directory as I've created and sent off trouble reports to Cyan. The root of the Logs directory still contains a lot of files from earlier builds of Live that generated more files. And, I've also got a long, long directory full of KI images.

Cleaning up the folder means moving this content out and elsewhere (except any self-portrait icons you'd like to keep, obviously). Apparently, taking this action can dramatically improve game performance.

I know what I'll be doing tonight Twisted Evil

Thanks for mentioning this, Marten. A while ago I discovered two automatically generated logs of 6 MB each that made it impossible to zip any logs to the support. Now that I've deleted those, the folder is much smaller.

Thanks, for pointing to this matter, you're right about the
User Data folder, besides Defrag and such..., Marten Very Happy

That also reminds me of times in UU, where I used to delete
the log and the vnode_cache folder for a better performance
and/or in case of connection/network errors, especially on the
Alcugs Server (TPots online/ User ages)
