Phil accused of being the deceiver: by Ozwell Spencer, at Uru Obsession

I thought there were more posts like this... I'm certain I saw more somewhere... but I don't have time to dig them up. Work is pressing on me. Sad

And this just in... From Uru Obsession

My first reaction to this (and the implication of this from the earlier announcement) wan't good. But now I think about it, it may well be win-win for Cyan.

If Uru reaches the end of its season and loads of people unsubscribe from Gametap all of a sudden, some citing this as their reason then it shows that a proportion of the GT audience are only interested in Uru and that more funding so that there are no "off the air" periods might be warented.

Alternatively if it reaches the end of the season and there isn't a big stink then Cyan gets two months or so to fill up the pipeline for next year and fix bugs, next season is even better and Uru strives on regaining all the people it lost previously through its new level of awesomeness.

The Season Finale for Myst Online: Uru Live, which recently updated its content scheduling to follow GameTap’s successful episodic format, is currently scheduled for late October.

I'm not overly concerned about this season ender business. I would imagine that GameTap would have already settled its budget for the remainder of this year and probably earmarked its Uru budget for 2008 based on the activity they've seen so far this year. I'm going with the assumption that Uru will be okay for awhile. If Uru were getting the axe this year Cyan would surely know by now and would probably be referring to the final chapter as series finale or some such. (Unles Cyan is unaware, of course.)

I think the real question is does Cyan's 2007 report card warrant additional funding to grow the franchise? This is pretty important. Every episode the griping increases. I think if Cyan takes a couple of months off to stuff the pipeline for next year (a good idea, I think) then GameTap should prepare themselves for a "relaunch" of advertising.

I've been saying this all along: Every month Uru survives, the better the game for people brand new to it. Really, there is a LOT of content out there for the noobs. I'm actually jealous of them.

I also hope that during the "hiatus" Cyan figures out a way to make it so that the majority of Explorers aren't uncovering the story second hand.

Phil the Deceiver? I think it's pretty obvious by now that it could be......anyone! Shocked The biggest shocker, though, would be Yeesha...at least to us Yeesha followers.

I really hope that Cyan pulls off a blockbuster... but my confidence is low. Episodes, so far, have been three or four days of very cryptic hints and suggestions, followed by nearly a month of us doing our own thing.

An IC question: what IC story can account for the interepisode time? Do we just consider it a kind of suspended animation? Nothing really going on, marking time, marching in place?

The timing makes some sense. Until Uru always quieted down around the holidays, so there's not much point in introducing new content. It means the Cavern will be very quiet. I think we might want to plan some of our own activities for that period, November and December, to give people something to do. Be prepared for the Under the Roots! Christmas party. Smile

In view of all those speculations going on, what could anybody think,
what remains to believe?... Razz

I mean, fact is, as they say on the coming soon page
Quote:
Despite the ongoing battles of the Bahro and the threat of the coming war,
the DRC continues its efforts ...

So, I think that leaves no doubt on an ongoing battle for whatever reason...
The reason itself was explained by Phil, ok, that somebody could suspect,
but not the fact, that it actually takes (or took place?) (also think of Minkata)...

I really don't believe and see nothing pointing to that conclusion, that
Phil or even Yeesha could be a deceiver... and Sharper "following" them
now...hmmm... no IMO...

The coming soon page continues:
Quote:
...as a former DRC member returns to the cavern. What new information does he have to share
and will it lead to salvation or destruction?

If this is Engberg, maybe he's got further informations to the death of
Wheely, I mean the "real" circumstances of what happened to her...
If it's Watson, I don't have a clue, cause it could be anything...

But whoever it is or whatever there is to reveal , what about the
question "Will it lead to salvation or destruction?"
That leaves another question: To what kind of salvation or what kind of
destruction? Physically or mentally?
The cavern? I'd say no - The DRC? Don't see it, but possible...
Illusions and/or misconceptions? Most certainly...

So, what about "Deception" in view of all this...?
Somebody in the forums mentioned Ahnonay as a most deceiving age...
Could be another interpretation of the title...
However, I feel confident of experiencing thrilling and interesting
happenings to come... Very Happy

I agree in your points, Prof Askew, as of the funding, the content for noobs and the game play,
but especially "...GameTap should prepare themselves for a "relaunch" of advertising..."
And I believe the UruAd should be made by the fans... *smiling to Marten* Wink

Do you mean now? Or after the finale?

For now:
Quote:
(05/19 18:26:34) Victor Laxman: The DRC will be working on restoration for a few weeks each month...
(05/19 18:27:15) Victor Laxman: and then we'll be trying to have more contact with the explorers for a schedukled week...
(05/19 18:27:41) Victor Laxman: to answer questions and pass along information.

And after the finale... perhaps the DRC is going to the surface for the holidays and the Bahro ... ehm.... they thought of the christmas spirit and stopped the war. Razz

Erik, I meant between all episodes, but the question also applies to after the finale. Do we put story mode into "pause?" Or do we assme there are things going on that we don't, and probably never will, see?

So far we've had about 7 months of buying sizzle, with very little steak. I'm as good as anyone else at helping to make nail soup, but I'm tired of all the big promises that just turn out to be another variant on a pod "age."

And all they're saying is that they hope there will be a second season. I'm still waiting for the real first season to start.

I wanted to comment briefly on this one point. I don't have enough time right now to comment on the others, although everything said thus far is interesting to me.

OOC: We know that there is a war, and there should be no doubt.
IC, Roleplaying: Explorers do not know about the "Coming Soon" page, Uru is not a game, and as Zander explained... the only "proof" we have of the war is the good words of Douglas Sharper and Phil Henderson, and not all explorers trust those two people.

Using OOC knowledge within IC is a form of metagaming. In situations such as this one, it may be inappropriate to use such knowledge within the game. We cannot point at the "Coming Soon" page and say to people, "We're right, you were wrong." Part of playing the game is that we may be right... yet be in the weakest position to prove what we say.

I believe everyone involved with The Great Tree understands this already, but I thought it would not hurt to re-emphasize it. Smile

An additional thought

I also wanted to crosspost this from MystOnline.com; I mentioned it at UO too.

Quote:
I would like to point out something I don't think has been noticed.

Sam & Max Season 2 will be running over the time Uru is between seasons.

I do not doubt that this schedule was deliberately planned by GameTap - while we're waiting on Uru to resume, we'll have their other original adventure series to keep us hooked.

I understand that not every Uru fan enjoyed Sam & Max Season 1, but I think there's a significant, non-discountable overlap between these audiences. So, smart thinking on GameTap's part!

This is a really nice explanation, Marten, I really had to laugh out loud
by reading this...
And you're absolutely right with that statement...lol...
I was trying to clarify my point of view to ICly matters and totally
mixed it up...maybe cause this thread is very OOC and we're in
the Randomness forum...yeah, but however you're right lol...
Thanks for the advice Very Happy

I hope Sam & Max will keep people from unsubscribing. I really enjoyed season 1, so I'll certainly be playing Season 2.

Are you all staying after the finale?

Shocked Shocked Shocked
I'm deeply shocked by this question...

Sorry, Sam & Max couldn't really keep me, I'm here for MOUL
and besides I like Game Tap as well... There are some interesting
games and more to come, I like the animation videos and others
on Game Tap TV, I like the whole style of their presentation...
...just loading another update...want to have another look into it...

Hey, just wow, I've just seen many new and also a few very interesting
games and a report by Victor Lukas on Comic Con 2007...
And I've also seen 6 Episodes of Sam & Max, the new season is
announced, maybe I should have a look into them one day... Cool

I really don't find any reason to complain, but that's just me...
However, I love Uru, I've always enjoyed it, and I'll stay and support it
as long as there is any chance to keep it up... Very Happy

In responce to point the first:

Quote:

"I have been authorized by the jurisdiction of whatever city this is to
punish you in whatever way I can think of!" - Max

In responce to point the second:

I will probably be about, yes. I think we should organise two TGT get togethers for the two months Uru is "off the air."
