A recent post from Saxy got me to thinking: With as diverse a crowd such as we have here on TGT’s forum, I thought it might be interesting to ask what people are listening to right now as a way to catch artists or sounds to check out. I love all music, but only with Saxy’s post did I discover “Thievery Corporation” so I wonder what music you are listening to I should give a spin.

Currently I am listening to Robert Plant, Blue October, and Nora Jones but all that will change in a half hour or so…What are you listening to right now?

Good topic!

Right now I am re-ripping my music collection to mp3 (I prefer ogg, but my new car stereo will not play ogg, so - mp3 wins).

I ripped all of my SO's music too Wink Except one CD, which had that nasty Sony/BMG rootkit "copy protection" on it. I pointed it out to him - he's requesting a replacement CD from Sony....

Right now, ripping disc 2 of "The Nutcracker" presented by "Royal Opera House Covent Garden."

Next after that: Lots and lots of Christopher Franke. Babylon 5 soundtracks. Then Dido, Don McLean, and my collection of Sierra Soundtracks. When all of that is done, I get to run everything through volume normalization... and then sort the mp3s into groups and burn them to CDs I can listen to in my car Smile

Recently I have been listening to Sirius Radio. Not very happy with it - they rotate the same music too much. But I've heard some Thievery Corporation on channel 33. I think I like the Paul Oakenfield hour best.

Ooh, great idea, Aztec. Perhaps if we could even provide a link sampling the music -- such as to YouTube or another source -- might be a good way to mix things up a bit and get an idea what everyone's into.

My tastes normally stay within a particular realm (who can identify my forum icon?), but in any case I love finding new music. Enter Pandora, which I've turned a few TGT members onto. This is how I find new music, rather than listening to the radio.

A while back I heard a song in the playlist by a band called Dredg. Their first album is a concept taken from a short story by one of the members, and I can't stop listening to it. It took me a while to get used to their new albums, but this one was gold on my first hearing.

Pandora is cool; a similar service is last.fm, and I think someone's working on tools that make the two work together somehow...

Woo good idea Very Happy If you only watch one of the videos I recommend go for the first one and watch it all the way through Very Happy

Right now I'm loving Regina Spektor! She rawks my sawks, don't like all of her stuff but she's so experimental its to be expected. She is amazing:

Also still loving The Arctic Monkeys- Whatever people say I am is what I am not Album at the moment. Their sound was amazingly fresh Brit stuff, and was a welcome breath of fresh air when it came out last year.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yA8BxwrniUs

And two Scottish acts The Fratellis- Costello Music (Wee lads fae Glasgow Smile )
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clhOnZRrmXc [Warning: Video may be considered a bit raunchy... if you were born in the 19th century that is]

and Paulo Nuttini who I hear is going down a treat in the states. Much love for the Paulo, we were born in the same town and he's a friend of an actress pal of mine.

I LOVE The Rippingtons! I must've seen them in concert at least six times. I saw them once at the Thorton Winery (I think that's the name of it) in the middle of the desert of inland southern California. That was a really cool concert. I got to meet Jeff Kashiwa and have him sign some of my CDs. Weee!

Right now I'm listing to Regina Spektor's "Fidelity". (See Dan's post above.) Cool I'm so addicted to that song! It's been stuck in my head all weekend! Great taste, Dan.

(Great thread, Aztec!)

Right now I'm listening to Bjork's "There's More to Life Than This" (kinda weird music video... but good song).

Stevie Nicks' "Edge of Seventeen" has been my song of the hour for the last two days. I think I will have to tag it as the "Song of Chapter 4". Laughing

my iPod is shuffling through a mix of Meatloaf, Peter Gabriel, David Bowie, The Colgate Thirteen (a capella group), Evanesence, Bonnie Tyler, Fire Inc., an album of various modern bands doing ABBA covers, and the Trans Siberian Orchestra.

I dare anyone to get more eclectic than that. Wink
