Hey, while we're being random, I have a question for anyone familiar with statistical hypothesis testing.

When do you use a t-score? In two out of the three stats classes I've taken, my professors taught me to use t-scores when:

a) a degree(s) of freedom is (are) imposed on the null hypothesis
-and/or-
b) the sample size is 30 units or less

My market research professor insists that you only use a t-score, as opposed to a z-score, when the population variance is unknown, when I have clearly learned otherwise.

What do you think?
