My kitten, to be exact. Smile

We adopted Zephyr at the animal shelter this weekend, and he is teh awesome. Such a cute, sweet, funny kitten! He makes a great addition to the family.

Expect pictures of him regularly. Here they are...

(And if anyone is savvy enough to look at the photo titles and sees they're all labelled "Mirna," that's because when we first got him they told us he was a girl, so we named him that originally. We decided he needed something slightly more masculine, thus his new name of Zephyr.)

Great kitten!

How does one pick out a kitten and make sure it isn't some crazy EVIL kitten?

Yeah, most of the kittens I knew grew up to be crazy and evil.

The opposite was the family cat I had growing up. We got him when he was maybe a year old, and he was hideously mean. Years of kindness from us turned him into the mellowest, most wonderfully companionable cat I've ever seen. I miss him!

Now you have something ready at hand to post when it's time for dose of CUTENESS!

Cool! I'm more of a cat person, but pugs are cute! Smile

Nothing is foolproof, but your best bet for finding a non-evil kitten is the animal shelter. Seriously. The kittens there are used to barking dogs, being around other cats, all sorts of random people wandering through, being handled by different people, etc. They're totally bombproof, so they don't do any of the normal insane and paranoid kitten fear reactions. This kitten would prefer to have the run of the house and shows no fear of my housemate's cats and dogs.

That doesn't mean he's not affectionate or attached, though. He knows I'm his mom and acts differently to me than even to my housemate. He loves to snuggle with me and play with me, and he purrs constantly. And I've only had him since Saturday.

Of course, he might grow up to be a sociopath, but we're working to avoid that...

(Also keep their claws trimmed. Doing that regularly is a few minutes well spent, or they'll hurt you a lot by accident.)

Yeah, for real. Things get tense on the board, and Annacat takes a quick snap of the kitten, uploads it, and poof! the tension is instantly diffused.

Yay for animal cuteness! Smile

Perhaps I'll bring Zephyr by from time to time. He's quite the little explorer, takes after me in that. Wink

Zephyr can be the official mascot of the Great Tree Age.

Great name...

10 points if you can place the quote:

"Zephyr winds that blow on high... lift me now so I can fly."

One simply does not make sure. One must assume that ALL kittens are evil beneath that top layer of cuteness.

Neat kitten, Annacat!

As for evil kittens... these tend to be the product of how they're raised. Much like human children. If you're nice to a kitten they'll come around even if they've been abused in the past. My cat Ophir brought home a stray kitten one time who was so wild I couldn't get near. I'd put out food, and Ophir would share. Eventually she came around. Was always a one-person cat but she'd spend hours in my lap, purring while I read.

I like the kittenized GT logo, too.

As for pugs... I'm a cat person, but some friends of mine have a pug whom I've made an honorary cat. He's really neat. For a dog. Nice disposition, interested in what's going on, and quite the cuddler.
