The film? ... or the possibilities? ... haha ... no, ok, seriously, I suppose
Marten will be in a more fortunate position now to complete this great
project as authentic as possible by being provided with all the decorations,
environments, personalities and whatever requirements needed, but now
openly without having to worry anymore about how to proceed and where
to get the required stuff etc. etc.... Very Happy

With OHB absent indefinitely, I may have to wait a little longer. It shouldn't take too long though.

When I just saw your entry here on the main page, Erik, I thought Marten had
already given an update lol... Smile

So, yeah, not to push or to tease you as well, Marten, but Erik's question is valid... Very Happy

People step up, say they can help, then disappear.

I'll work on a 3rd option. Cool

I hope you're proceeding successfully with your third option, Marten... Very Happy

And I really don't grasp your perception of not counting here, dearest
and very precious Szark... What are we to do with such a sweetheart?...
Maybe we should love him more... /hugs ... Smile

LOL I meant as I am only an extra come actor I don't play much of a part in helping with putting all this stuff together. My sense of humour normally gets mistaken for grumpiness even with emoticons.

Janaba you really are a ray of sunshine and a great example to others in how you word you posts.

But my offer of help still stands even though I have distanced myself from Uru for the time being. Recently I have let a few people down, like Leo. I didn't mean to life just got a tad hectic. I just wanted to let Marten know that at least some of us still think about hm and this project. Very Happy

It's been three years, yup. In that time, I've gotten a new job, and MacOS X has updated enough times that I have little hope of getting MOSS to run on it.

I just downloaded KNOPPIX and burned it to a DVD. Going to try to get it booted up in an old laptop. I only have a little time every day to play with this, but I'm still trying to get a server up so I can continue.

It'd be so much easier if someone else could just run a shard and do all the admin stuff for me tho.

So how is the new job Marten?

Can I ask why run a shard? And what is it about Macs compared to PCs. I have heard this so often regarding other software so I have to ask why bother.

Hey Szark,

I got busy again. I have too many projects I'm continually juggling. I enjoy my job, it's still amazing to me that they pay me to do what comes so naturally to me (to be super detail-oriented).

So - in order to finish the videos, I need to film the DRC avatars in settings that exactly match the settings for which I have existing video of volunteer actors representing the original 2003 explorers. That requires that I have access to a multiplayer shard where I can log in with a camera avatar and a DRC avatar at the same time. And I have to have neighborhoods where I can film scenes that match the ones where I did the filming on MOUL(a). I don't want the lamp lighting, for example, to change between camera shots.

I don't have the necessary arrangements on any other shards where everything meets the standards I've set for completing the project. And setting up and getting my own shard running, and a client that will work with it, has proven to be a huge headache.

Windows PCs won't run MOSS or DirtSand, the two open shard options.

Cyan's shard software runs on Windows, but requires an expensive database (Oracle), and it's not open source so that's not an option.

Macs can run MOSS or DirtSand, but because both were originally written to run on Linux and the documentation is aimed at running them on Linux, that is the far easier approach.
