OK... there's been way too much negativity floating around, and it's dirupting my chi. We need to offset with something fun and creative.

I propose Poetry Corner. A place to be a creative outlet for any and all things going on IC.

No free verse or just plain speaking... erm... typing. All things from here on to be lyrical in some form. Quatrains, Iambic Pentameter, halmark-card-esque sing-song verse... what have you.

Creativity must flow and fun must be had.

If this thread takes off and flies like an eagle, it will do good for all of us.

If it flops and flies like a penguin... at least it will be Hot n Spicy... like a Penguin. Wink

Here begineth the verse...

Library Door
a Haiku

O, Library Door...
you remember how to close,
but never open.

Something I made about 3 or 4 years ago...

Quote:
mysterious
by [gadren]

as mysterious as
a Cleft, a great wound in the earth
a hole in the desert
full of passageways to secrets unseen for centuries
with designs carved into the living rock
and goes deeper down
a home of people long since gone.
but it remains

as mysterious as
a City, hidden in the earth
the deep
the darkness
unopened for centuries
with ancient buildings carved from the living rock
and palaces and halls of kings long dead
which lead to towers filled with carvings and patterns
of cold stone
that overlook an endless lake
the remnants of a great people, a people long gone.
but it remains

as mysterious as
a Book, leather cover worn with age
full of ancient symbols unknown for centuries
letters and pen-strokes written into the page
a drawing, an image of a faraway place
an island
a Writing, a Bridge to a strange new world
a work of a person long since gone.
but it remains

Invent something insipid

There once was a man from Rime,
Who kept three wives at a time.
When asked "Why the third?"
He said "One's absurd,
And bigamy, sir, is a crime."

Sorry... couldn't resist... Embarassed

Apologize not!
Limericks are quite valid.
We're just having fun!

Uru Again
a sonnet

Uru Live was cancelled in the Prologue,
We were sad to see it lost so early.
Disappear it did not, into the fog,
Until Uru helped us keep it, surely.
Three years later, Uru's almost finished.
New and old friends come back to re-live it.
Everything (new Ages!) just as we wished,
Caves and tunnels (eerily) are re-lit.
Let us not let conflict draw us apart,
Rather, let us share in this great vision.
We decide our own paths in this new start.
Where it goes from here is our decision.
Words to all: lets meet up by the fountain,
Please be safe while you attempt that mountain!

Wow, is that ever cheesy. (I couldn't think of anything else that rhymes with fountain! Embarassed)

"The Library" by Moiety Jean

ResEng1 said to ResEng2
"We've got a holy mess.

Come down here to the Cavern, stat.
There's trouble in excess."

"They opened up the library
before it was prepared.

I told them, but they heeded not,
and now we must be scared."

ResEng2 came on the scene
and stood by ResEng1.

He looked upon the building
and he saw what it had done.

The story here was clear to see.
It turned the stomach sour.

The evidence was all around
of venturers devour'd.

And in the cavern clear as day
A booming voice rang out.

No person could have bellowed so!
The structure, it could shout!

"FEED ME, FOR I HUNGER!"
The great house seemed to sneer.

The ResEng could not fathom
why explorers still drew near!

"Oh happy day! New books to read!"
The visitors rejoiced.

Could it be they had not heard
that giant, evil voice?

Quite blissfully they wandered close,
discovery in their eyes.

Through heavy doors they did not hear
the muffled, wailing cries.

"YUM YUM YUM!" The building said,
and opened up one door,

and closed it on a victim third
who came in to explore.

"This has to stop!" howled ResEng1
who grabbed at ResEng2

They hurled themselves upon the doors
but nothing could they do.

Once a soul had gone inside
well, that was where he'd stay

And soon the Engineers themselves
had joined the grisly fray.

That was how it went that night.
Explorers, unconcerned,

were lured inside that tricksome gate
never to return.

Gradually the Cavern stilled.
T'was emptied of its host.

The Restoration efforts ceased.
D'ni gave up the ghost.

In the haunting silence there,
where many lives were squelched,

one final sound was heard by none:
a single, lavish belch.

As for me - igotnuttin - but perhaps I will find something Uru-ish to put up. Smile

Great stuff! Very Happy

igotnuttin new... but if you guys don't mind a re-post, this is a song rather than a poem per se. It's a parody, obviously, based on a song from Pirates of Penzance. Very mild spoilers for all Myst games, with each one getting a verse. Smile

The Explorers Who Won't Link Anywhere (to the tune of The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything)

Refrain: We're the explorers who won't link anywhere
We just stay at home and play some heek
And if you ask us to link anywhere
We'll just tell you we won't link anywhere.

1.) Well, I've never touched a strange book and then wound up on an island
And I've never talked to crazies called Sirrus or Achenar
And I never rode a pine tree and I've never drained a lighthouse
And I've never been to D'ni in the Fall.

(Refrain)

2.) And I never rode a log cart or got shot at with a blow dart
And I never linked a weird place with no way of coming home
And I never trapped a psycho or sucked an Age into a vacuum
And I've never been to D'ni in the Fall.

(Refrain)

3.) Well, I've never seen a paaaaaadlock or a trendy yellow raincoat
And I never rode a foodstuff that was carried by a bird
And I've never been in danger from a guy who wields a hammer
And I've never been to D'ni in the Fall.

(Refrain)

4.) And I've never been unconscious and I never broke Tomahna
And I never lost a kid I was supposed to babysit
And I've never pulled a lever that was gold or maybe "amber"
And I've never been to D'ni in the Fall.

(Refrain)

5.) Well, I've never heard of Ducknee and I've never snaked a Bahro
And I don't control the weather with a big fat piece of chalk
And I've never thought a quacky bird could bite like a pirahna
And I've never been to D'ni in the Fall.

(Refrain)

6.) I've never spied on Sharper and I never stole a t-shirt
And I don't believe that staying safe means jumping off a bridge
And I've never searched for Shroomie and I've never danced with Yeesha
And I've never been to D'ni in the Fall.

Refrain: We're the explorers who won't link anywhere
We just stay at home and play some heek
And if you ask us to link anywhere
We'll just tell you we won't link anywhere.
