That last idea works best for me, jana. Now... can you give me a German translation of that?
I just wanted to update everyone here that I should have English and German versions ready on Friday (taking the day off from work), and French on Monday (Amarok is very busy right now). I hope to start putting Episode 2 together on Friday as well, and have a test version of that ready. _________________ Durin Mephit * Member of Guild of Messengers - Unless otherwise stated, opinions are mine only and not Guild endorsed.

hi, marten,
german translation:
Diese Ereignisse vom Uru Prolog wurden so genau wie möglich nachgestellt.
Freiwillige Darsteller ersetzen die Rollen von den Forschern, die sich nicht

We're almost ready to launch Episode 1.
The English version, in Windows Media format, is 70 megabytes at the moment. I'm experimenting with methods to reduce this.
The German version is under review.
The French version will be prepared tomorrow evening. _________________ Durin Mephit * Member of Guild of Messengers - Unless otherwise stated, opinions are mine only and not Guild endorsed.

It was longer than I thought it was going to be, 15 minutes or so I think? Which is ok. You might be able to speed up the legth of time the text sits on the screen, I found myself waiting for it to change. This would help cut down the overall time... I'll rewatch it and see if I can find any specific spots as examples.
Looks REALLY good though! Wow. It was very hard to see Laxman, working in the shadows of the Nexus. Maybe he can be working in the light next time around? But that's pretty much my only complaint cinematographically. (<-- new word)
Awesome work! When will it be distributed? People are asking on Urulive!

The video length is going to stay the same, for a few reasons... not to speak of having spent far too much time during my weekend working on the video already I wish that I could tailor the video to every person watching it. If that were easy, I'd do it. But I alas I cannot!
Reasons for long text delays:
(1) I'm a slow reader, and if I speak all of the lines out loud, it's just about right
(2) I can't make the video different lengths for the translated versions, and in some cases, the translations are a bit longer. For example, both translators asked, "What's the lattice?". So in the translated versions, instead of the word "lattice", there is a description of what the lattice is.
As for the brightness levels, I've adjusted those about fifty zillion times already before you saw this copy... The rain scene and Laxman were both originally much darker than they are now. If I try to brighten Laxman any more, the background in the Nexus starts to become very obviously blue, and artifacting starts to show up on his face because of the low number of colors actually present in the scene. If you are still having trouble seeing characters in these scenes, you might also check the date on the back of your CRT; maybe it is time for a new one... cathode ray tubes get dimmer and dimmer, the older they get. Note taken though; if we have him in the Nexus again, maybe I can find a different position with better lighting.
Distribution is when it happens. I need to get the foreign language versions written out and get the QT versions into Cycreim's hands, because Adobe Media Encoder's QT output is not implemented correctly. (At least it's better than in Premiere 1.5 - I've seen forum posts about that version where the answer to every QT question is "Don't even try to write QT format.")
Fact: The uncompressed 720x480 video of this episode is 3.5 gigabytes. _________________ Durin Mephit * Member of Guild of Messengers - Unless otherwise stated, opinions are mine only and not Guild endorsed.

You're right about the awesomeness, Professor. I'm downloading the video as I type.
Edit: 20 minutes later. Wow. You folks have outdone yourselves. This is great.
My one comment is about the text during the storm, when Zardoz and Phil are talking. I couldn't read some of the light-colored text against the shiny walkway.
Pace is good. Camera angles just plain amazing. You've told the story very well. |

I've converted the Mac version you posted to be able to stream immediately, Marten, and I sent the link to Brian... I hope that was the final version. _________________ KI: 34353 |

Yes, those are the final versions (for English).
German is now up:

http://marten.treeweasel.com/UntilUru/Ep1_Deutsch.mov
(Again, time for Cycreim's magic on the Quicktime version.)
I have a feeling French will not be ready until Tuesday (I haven't received the translations yet - more important things grabbed Amarok away for a bit, I think), but if we just point people to the media page and tell them French will be up later, that's OK.
And Eleri: Tension rising! You have no idea. _________________ Durin Mephit * Member of Guild of Messengers - Unless otherwise stated, opinions are mine only and not Guild endorsed.
